Taking a Mental Health Day Off Trail
This morning I woke up at the room around 7am. I could see that 9 Lives was already up doing some work on her phone. We both have so much to get caught up on and it’s so hard to do while you’re hiking all day long.
9 Lives and Sidequest went to the post office around 8am to pick up some boxes that they had. While they did that I got a little bit organized at the room. We still haven’t done our resupplying yet and we have to figure out whether we want to resupply next in Winter Park or push all the way to Breckenridge. It’s only 50 something miles to Winter Park and it’s 126 miles to Breckenridge. But I really don’t want to carry five days of food if I can avoid it.
I was feeling ridiculously stressed out this morning after doing so much work last night. I spent hours working and still barely scratched the surface of how behind I am. If anything I really just realized last night how insanely behind on my blogging and everything that I am. I could really use a day off today, but I don’t want to make everyone take a day if they don’t want to.
Around 9am Syrup and I decided to go walk and grab some breakfast and then do our resupplying. Sparkle and James actually met up with us and we all went to breakfast together. There was a bakery in town which Sparkle said was really good. I got this jalapeño cheddar bagel with cream cheese and bacon, egg, and cheese. I also got an iced dirty chai latte and a cinnamon roll.
While we were sitting in the coffee shop Sidequest and 9 Lives arrived. Then we all decided to talk about what we want to do next. We’ve been going back and forth about whether or not we’re going to go to trail days. We’ve also been going back and forth about when we should take zero days and everything like that. We had to make a decision right now about what we wanted to do though. Trail days is only three days away at this point.
In the end, we decided that we do want to go to trail days. 9 Lives and I both have to get work done so we’ll just have to get a room in Leadville so that we can hang out and also get work done. It seems like Sparkle is going to be able to get us a ride with her friend if we can get to Winter Park in a few days.
That means we’re only about 50 miles away from the pick up location. It’s only going to take us two days to get there and we are three days away. So we also decided to take a zero day today. As soon as we decided that, I felt so unbelievably relieved. I can’t even explain it. I can spend the entire day getting caught up on the video work and blogging and I don’t have to stress about it while we’re hiking through Colorado anymore.
After that, a massive weight was lifted off my shoulders. We decided to head back to the room and get packed up. Then we moved over to a different motel, which was a little bit cleaner and had way better Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi last night was terrible, which makes it really hard to do writing and video work for 9 Lives and I.
Once we got over to the new motel, I dropped my stuff off and then walked to do my resupplying. We only need about 54 miles of food because we’re just going walk to where you can get a ride into Winter Park. Then we’re going get a ride to go to trail days for two days.
After I got my resupply done I headed back to the room and worked on my writing for hours. I wound up sitting outside of the motel and doing voice to text for literally hours until I got completely caught up on all of my blogs. It was such a relief to finally be caught up after having been literally about two weeks behind.
I rewarded myself with a milkshake after I was done. Then I headed back to the motel room to just hang out in bed. The nice thing is once I’ve done my voice to text, I can just lay in bed and do the grammatical editing of the blog. Then I just have to upload it and add photos.
I laid in bed for a while after doing some editing. And after hours of writing and editing, I wound up getting almost entirely caught up on the blogs. I still have to do some more work when we’re at trail days, but it’ll be a lot more manageable than what it would have been.
Later on in the evening everybody wanted to get milkshakes so I went back with them for round two. Then I came back to the room and did even more writing. My plan for the day is to literally have my phone in my hand and be editing every chance that I get.
The rest of the day was really nice and lazy after that. Sometime after 5pm, I got a pizza from the place across the street. Then I just ate some food and watched TV while I continued to edit. By 10pm I was still laying in bed doing the exact same thing. I also did get my stuff put together because we’re going to be hiking out at some point tomorrow. Today was a really nice rest day and I was able to get so much stuff done. It’s been such a relief honestly. Now I’m excited to hike for two days and then get off for two days for trail days.
