Wear sunscreen daily: Make it a habit to apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even on cloudy days. Remember, consistency is key when it comes to skincare and sun protection. By incorporating these resolutions into your routine, you can take proactive steps towards better skin health and reduce the risk of skin cancer.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – This is a joyous time of year to think about what is important – family, friends, and good health! It’s a wonderful moment to reflect and make changes that can improve our lives.

I would like to wish everyone great luck in 2025, and since 7 is a lucky number, here are seven great New Year’s resolutions for better skin care, sun protection, and the prevention of skin cancer:

1. Wear protective clothing: Choose clothing that covers your skin, such as long sleeves, pants, and wide-brimmed hats. Rash guards and long sleeved swim shirts are great protection.

2. Wear sunscreen daily: Make it a habit to apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even on cloudy days.

3. Reapply sunscreen: As a surfer myself, I think it’s important to remember to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours, especially if you are swimming or sweating.

4. Seek shade: Limit your time in direct sunlight, especially from 9 to 5 pm.

5. Avoid tanning beds: Steer clear of artificial UV radiation sources like tanning beds, which can increase the risk of skin cancer.

6. Perform regular skin checks: Keep an eye on any changes in your skin, such as new moles, growths, or spots, and consult a dermatologist if you notice anything suspicious.

7. Stay informed: Stay updated on skin cancer prevention tips and skincare best practices to make informed decisions about your skin health.

Remember, consistency is key when it comes to skincare and sun protection. By incorporating these resolutions into your routine, you can take proactive steps towards better skin health and reduce the risk of skin cancer.
